A Praticail Solution for Off Grid HousingFriends,Here is an idea I need to share. Please email me and tell me what you think. I know this page is rough, but I just had to put all the info together in one place. If we get some serious interest in this project, I will turn this page into a full site. |
OverviewFood for 1 year- $7,221.07, Water from air- $1,350 for 7 gallons per day (larger models available), Home $1,860 plus labor and some supplies (dirt, barbed wire, windows and doors), Electricity- $7,048= $17,049Lets be generous and call it $25,000 or even $30,000. Add $20,000 for interiors (cabinets, floors, plumbing, etc). So for $50,000 you can have a self sustaining home. All you need is land. Can we put all of these products into one semi-truck container and ship them to customers?I have more questions for you at the bottom of this page.I have copied the info below directly from the manufacture's webpages. Let's put our heads together and make this thing happen. |

So if my math is right, their most expensive product, the 26"bag is $1860, and you get three 400sq ft domes out of it, for a total of 1200sq ft. That is $1.55/sq ft. Plus dirt, barbed wire, and labor. Is it possible to build ANYTHING for that low of cost/sq ft.?Instead of building with straight sticks, we can now build with bendable "noodles". Add stucco or plaster to the mix and now the possibilities are endless. Use stucco to create the look of round log homes for instance. We can now use this same technology to build gardens, walkways, erosion control, patios, decks, swimming pools, or whatever else you can think of. And we haven't even touched on the artistic value. |

What we needHere is what I see that we need. We need someone or some ones to invest in this idea. I have no money at this time to invest (that may soon change), but I am more than willing to offer my labor and take on the advertising and web design aspect of this. I can handle the shipping logistics as well.#1 thing we need to do is to build a dome. We need to find out what is ACTUALLY involved in building one of these domes by doing it ourselves. We need a model home that we can use to show potential clients through on-site visits and through photography, video, and web/ graphic design. Can we find someone willing to buy some SuperAdobe bags and dirt and barbed wire? Can we find someone willing to go get trained on how to build these ecodomes (I am willing to go, but need help with the financing). $1,700 for a one week intensive hands on workshop in CA.September 15 - 20 One week intensive October 9 - 15 One week intensive Can we find an architect who is willing to design the plans? We can buy plans for $3,200, or we can just get the bags and try it. Books and how to DVDs are available. Can we find a land developer who is willing to give this a try? How about doing an entire community this way.Plumbing may be an issue, but I think one of my friends may be able to help with a tire septic system ;-) that would be Chuck or Bill ;-)Can we figure out how to streamline the labor? In other words can we use a cement truck with a hose attachment to fill the bags? Here is what I already have lined up...Land where we can build one of these! Permission already given.Electricians willing to do the electrical work!Possible truck driving team.Blacksmith to help with any metalwork.Web design team. We can make all the promotional products and websites.Internet marketing. Our customer base can be diverse. Survivalist communities, housing foreclosure victims, people who want a "man cave" in their back yard, the list goes on and on.I know of at least 5-10 people already willing to come and help with the labor on the domes. |
HOW to get these houses in front of people? If we advertise on rense.com, survivalist.com, and Mother Earth news magazine... we should have enough business to keep us busy for a long time. There are a lot of places we can advertise online for free. That's national and international potential customers. Maybe I'm getting too far ahead of myself, but the options in the future are great. Is there a market here in the Ozarks? I think so. How many people whose houses have been foreclosed in CA, NV, and AZ have come here to the Ozarks? How many more are being foreclosed every week? How many locals are tired of the government being in control of their lives? (Judging by the turnout at the Ron Paul rally in Branson, I would say quite a few!) Yes, I believe there is a market here in the Ozarks!I bet the students studying architecture at UofA, College of the Ozarks, SMSU, etc. would be interested in coming to help build one of these. What about Boy Scouts, Fraternaties, Sororities, or any organization that helps with charities. What charity couldn't use a new self sufficient building? Lord knows, people in Eureka Springs would be interested. A couple of press releases asking for help should get us all the manpower we need. Lets get these out into the world. This is my dream. To be able to offer sustainable long term housing completely self sufficient. I hope you see the possibilities as I do. If you are excited about this as I am, please get in touch with me.ThanksJosh |
